Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf
or
"The Lone Wolves Debut!"

DID YOU KNOW: One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today is because cotton growers in the 1930's lobbied against hemp farmers, since they saw it as competition. It is not as chemically addictive as is nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine. In addition, penguins can jump as high as 6 feet in the air.

I would also like to announce that the U.S. Open takes up the 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM timeslots on this Cartoon Saturday. So that means my whole weekend is completely ruined with nothing to watch (I waited ALL week for this)! I hope you all find something else to watch instead. I know that I sure won't. But I will give Cartoon Saturday one more chance next week and tell you what happened.

1991 saw the release of SNK's "Fatal Fury". We begin with a 30 second intro that shows a ninja breaking into a dojo. Then we see a boat, and on board it are Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, and Tung Fu Rue. Their father (Jeff) is surrounded by children asking for change. Then a limbo pulls up and Jeff begins defending himself from the thugs with his martial arts skills. Then we hear an impale sound as someone stabbed him in the back. Unphased, he kicks him right in the head, splattering a young girl's face with blood. Then he turns around and sees... GEESE HOWARD (the villain of the series). The two of them stand still and do nothing for a bit. Then the blonde man jumps back and hurls a powerful REPUUKEN at him. A few seconds later, we find Geese Howard on the phone with someone. "Now no one will be able to stop me. *typical laugh*" Then we find out that Geese was jealous, and that's why he attacked. "The pain is no greater than the sorrow I feel. I wish I could have done something." Then after the words "FATAL FURY" pass by on a black screen, we find ourselves in a night time city. Then we see a guy open a suitcase discussing to Geese if they should run The King of Fighters again. That was the subtitle of Fatal Fury 1, and would later become an extremely successful series of its own. "Some guy downstairs is asking about you." It happens to be Terry, who then touches some lady's rear. "It's the Queen of Southtown! Hey Lily! Come on down!" Billy Kane's saying how he can't handle it, then Lily says that she'll go out with whoever catches the rose. Of course, all the people are excited. Billy tells her she's drunk, and Lily says, "Keep out of this!" Hahahaha. The rose suddenly flies right into Terry's hand. "Hey! Give that back to me!" Terry says, "And if I say no?" The men suddenly charge at Terry, and since he's a bad***, he defeats all of them with ease. "What's going on?" Terry's now fighting a kickboxer. Suddenly two white guys show up, who I assume are cops. The guy throws a table at the cop, and Geese saw what was going on the whole time. Now we're in an alleyway, and he says, "Thanks for nothing. Now the damn cops are looking for me." We find out that the guy knows him as Terry Bogard. "Your little brother uses the same stance as you." We find out that the guy's name is Joe Higashi, although he doesn't look anything like his game counterpart. Then an airplane flies over the distance and we find ourselves at Harbor Hotel. "Out of nowhere you took the title in Thailand. A mouth later you took the champion in Japan. But Andy, he isn't half bad himself. You know, I broke three ribs sparring with him in Japan." Then Terry asks Joe about an ancient karate technique. "Wanna sign up for the King of Fighters tournament?" "Joe, yes. I'm fimilar with that name. And who's the other one? I know I've seen him before somewhere. TERRY BOGARD." From that day forward, I assume that they hated one another. Then several kids are surrounding Lily. The green-haired girl is giving them money. "Don't spend it all at once." "Good morning, Queen of South Town." Then we see the limo again. "Follow him, hopper." Geese Howard! Now Terry's in a graveyard when he comes across Andy Bogard. He looks somewhat faithful to his game counterpart, except that his hair's gray instead of blonde. "That's enough!" Tung Fu shows up out of nowhere, and he says, "I see you have both mastered your own style of fighting. You have already surpassed your father's skill. In order to defeat Geese, you will have to use a technique that is so secret. It is the HURRICANE PUNCH. I will only teach it to my chosen idol I will only teach one of you. But strength will not be the only criteria. Those two were Geese's men." Terry then tells Andy about the King of Fighters tournament that starts in two days. Lili says, "Forgive me." Geese learns from his two men that they were going to learn a secret technique, and orders them to kill all three of the dudes. Then Billy says that the Lone Wolves have signed up for the King of Fighters. "What? The fools. By their own choice, they're walking straight into my trap. *laughs*." Two days pass. Now the King of Fighters tournament begins. The first thing we see in the tournament is the masked wrestler known as Raiden slamming Michael Max to the ground. Terry's first match is against Richard Myer, according to Geese. Now we see Joe looking more like his game counterpart defeat a guy with a red mohawk. Andy then beats Hwa Jai, and Geese says something about having to kill him. Then after a scene involving Lily, Terry now fights Richard Myer... WHO HAS GRAY HAIR instead of black. Terry beats Richard with his Crack Shoot (Rising Tackle). Now we get a montage of the tournament bracket. Billy defeats some blonde dude, Raiden beats a dude with brown hair, Joe defeats a Muay Thai man with brown hair, Andy defeating a man dressed in black. and Terry defeating a man with yellow pants. Most of those dudes you saw being defeated were not in the game, by the way. There were only eight characters (only three playables), so it made sense to add more characters to the mix. Anyway, we are now in the Quarterfinal matches. *DING* "Fight!" It's Terry Bogard vs Andy Bogard, battle of the Bogard brothers. Now this matchup only happened on the Sega Genesis version because the porters had to replace two of the characters with the other playable fighters. "I'll show no mercy. Neither will I, Andy." "Terry! Andy!" "Huh?* Then Joe suddenly jumps in the ring and... someone shoots him?!? Okay, I don't remember this happening in the game. I also remember that every fight did not take place in a ring (that was Battle K-Road, during the game's tournament). "Seal off the exits!" Now the Bogard brothers exit the building, and Lily's about to climb down. When suddenly... GEESE HOWARD appears. "Have you forgotten? You owe me a life for rescuing you from the slums. Ungrateful *****! This is the end, die!" Okay. WHY did they let that swear SLIP into the OVA?  Then Lily falls out the window and lands head-first. Terry's like, "Lily, lily!" She says, "Terry, forgive me... it wasn't your fault, Geese was using me..." He screams, "Lily!" Geese lets out his typical laugh. "Geese, I'll get you for this!" "Maybe. If you survive. *snaps fingers*" Now most of the game's cast appears at once. Suddenly Tung shows up and they get in the car. After a chase scene, Geese says that the old man won't last much longer, then he laughs again. Tung is gonna teach Terry the ancient secret technique of the Hurricane Punch. "There's no time to lose! I know my body better than any doctor! Now copy my stance!" Then the old man's body glows light blue, and Terry tries to do it. Afterwards, we see Andy fighting some men with Joe. Then we see Terry driving in a speedboat. After that, Billy Kane shows up and fights Joe and Andy, followed by Raiden." Master Geese is then told that Billy and Raiden can handle them just fine. "This is no fun at all!" *punched right in the face* "Hahahaha. He breaks Billy's ribcage and Joe performs his hurricane upper right in Raiden. "Geese! Now you're going to pay for murdering our father!" The blonde man slowly turns around. "So. You defeated Billy and Raiden. I am impressed. Very impressed. I suppose I'll have to defeat you myself." "You're going down man!" REH-POOOOOOKEN! Now this move was shown to be as powerful as its game counterpart. "Geese... I'll never forgive you! POWER WAVE!" "Child's play." Terry uses his next special move, the Burning Knuckle. Then with one punch, Terry's coughing blood. "What's wrong? This is the end, isn't it?" NOPE. So Geese does a Reppuken at Terry but he blocks it. The overconfident man gets angry that he's still standing, then Terry lets out one last technique. It's the HURRICANE PUNCH! "Your final technique can't beat my fighting ability!" Terry absorbs as much ki as possible then launches it at Geese. He lands with a splash in the water, which is way less impressive then how the ending of the game started off with. "Somehow I believe you. It's a brand new day." Well that's it. So was it any good? Yes it was actually. WAY BETTER than the Art of Fighting OVA in fact. There were a few inaccuracies to the game, but it's alright. See you next time!
Our second OVA covering a Neo-Geo game!
